PHASED ARRAY ULTRASONICS

Phased Array Ultrasonics is an advanced method of ultrasonic testing that has applications in medical imaging and industrial non-destructive testing.

In medicine a common application of phased array is the imaging of the heart. When applied to metals the PA image shows a slice that may reveal defects hidden inside a structure or weld. Current ultrasonic examination (UT) techniques require moving a transducer across a component's surface in a time-consuming two-dimensional scan pattern. The time required to execute this scan pattern contributes to labour costs, personnel exposure, and in some situations critical path impact. Phased array technology, offers a means to reduce the scanning time by simplifying the scan pattern.
